Warchalowski was an Austrian tractor manufacturer in Vienna, Austria.
History[]
The groundwork for the company was laid in 1858 with the firm of Jacob Warchalowski (Maschinenfabrik J. Warchalowski) in Vienna, when he started in a small business building machines. After the introduction of the internal combustion engine, he recognized the importance of this invention, and even started to produce engines. Its stationary engines were sold in the whole monarchy.
His sons built the operation and continued to developed numerous patents. They entered with the company Werner & Pfleiderer into business forming in August 1913 the Industrial Works Warchalowski (Warchalowski, Eissler & Co.), which soon employed 2,000 people.
In the Second World War, the installations were severely damaged, reconstruction of the factory was soon carried out. First, stationary engines were re-created until an air-cooled diesel engine was developed, which was then installed as standard from 1956 in tractors. The first tractors had an engine capacity of about 10 kW (14 hp) to 40 kW (50 hp).
Due to the high quality of products, especially the twin-cylinder engines, Warchalowski exported to distant countries, such as the USA, Brazil and Indochina.
From about 1968, the engines used in the tractors were built by International Harvester. In 1970 because of the decline in orders, Warchalowski ended the production of tractors. The firm was sold to International, (now Case IH).
On later Warchalowski tractors, the DN-series. the majority of the components purchased from abroad.
Due to the high development costs and the relatively small numbers produced, operations were stopped for good in the 1980s.
