Aveling & Porter no. 14070 was built in 1930 by Aveling & Porter of Rochester, as a roller, but is now a Showman's Engine known as Billy Boywith the reg VN 2094. The engine is in the livery of Blooms of Askham Notts, and is owned by P. Bloom of Nottinghamshire. This engine has been converted in recent history from its original form as a Steam roller.

Engines history[]

  • New in 1930 to North Riding of Yorkshire County Council as a 10ton Roller.
  • Later operated by Guy Potts Road Rolling Contractors, Newbottle, County Durham until 1964
  • Aquired the name "Billy Boy" while owned by Guy Potts. It was named after its regular driver Billy Clarke who spent much of his working life as a steam driver in showland
  • Bought by Gerry Procter of Yorkshire in 1964 for £100. Later owned by Richard Harrison and Then Peter Jordan
  • (Date ? - ?)and Preston Steam Services who sold it on to Turner Bros.
  • Turner Brothers 2008 to 2009 converted it to a showmans tractor a road roller[1][2]
  • Sold in Showman's form to P. Bloom of Askham, Notts.
