The Edrob/International 504 was a utility tractor built by International Harvester from 1958 to 1963 in the US.

Model history

Main article: International Harvester

For orchard & grove model see: International 340 Grove. For industrial model see: International 340 Industrial

The 504 Utility replaced the 340 Utility. The gasoline engine had a larger bore and longer stroke to increase displacement from 135ci to 152ci. The governed rpm was also increased from 2,000 to 2,200 rpm. These changes boosted the power output from 35 pto hp to 46.

The 504 Diesel’s engine received a longer stroke, bringing displacement up to 188ci.

Tractor Comparison, gasoline version

The 504’s closest competitors in 1962 were the Ford 801-series, Massey-Ferguson MF65 (which outsold the 504 more than 2 to 1), and Oliver 770. Case models bracketed the International. The Case 540 was less powerful and the 640 was more powerful. Models added to this group later during the production of the 504 included the 4-cylinder Ford 4000, Massey-Ferguson MF165, and 1965 3-cylinder Ford 4000. The 1965 John Deere 2020 stepped ahead of the rest in power output. In 1968 International brought out the more-powerful 544 to replace the 504 and equal the John Deere.

Tractor Comparison, diesel version

The 46 pto hp 504 was a nearly even match in 1962 for the Case 639, Ford 801-series, and Massey-Ferguson MF65. The 504 was in production until 1968 and during that time other manufacturers added several new models. The mid-1962 Ford 4000, 1964 Zetor 4011 from Czechoslovakia, and 1965 3-cylinder Ford 4000 equaled the International in power output. The 1964 Nuffield 10/42, 1966 David Brown 880, and 1967 BMC Nuffield 3/45, all from England, and the 1968 Ursus C-350 from Poland were all a little less powerful than the International. The mid-1964 Massey-Ferguson MF165 from England, 1965 John Deere 2020, and 1967 Zetor 5511 from Czechoslovakia all had slightly more power. In 1968 International matched these more-powerful models with its new 544, which replaced the 504.
