Entry criteria[]

Most of the listed firms build truck chassis and not complete dump-trucks as such in my opinion. External suppliers build and fit the body for the customer. Also other than specialist off road trucks most tractor units can pull any body type as they use a universal fifth wheel coupling system.

The list would be more appropriate to listing suppliers of Off-highway rather than on-highway trucks as 99% of truck makers can supple a chassis suitable for fitting with a dump-truck (Tipper in UK) body from there std chassis range. The main difference is a PTO to fit a hydraulic pump to tip the body and in some cases the chassis is reinforced to resit the twisting when tipping. Some uses prefer a more rigid axle assembly and spec trucks fitted with solid rubber suspension rather than springs. (also used on Mixer trucks). Some semi trailers have independent tipping gear with a power pack mounted on the trailer chassis, others fit a demountable unit to the tractor unit.
