Preston Services

Preston Services of Canterbury,in Kent England are dealers in steam engines. The company buys engines world wide and repatriates them to the UK. They also sell engines on commission for owners and source engines for buyers. They have probably the largest stock of engines awaiting restoration in the UK and probably world wide.

NOTE

Not all the engines seen in the Yard belong to Preston Services or are for sale, some are just stored at the yard or visiting for the events. Many of the engine are missing the full identity and are identified by T numbers which are listed in the Traction Engine Register,a comprehensive list of all known engines in the UK.

This is a list of the stock of 'Future projects' in the yard at Preston Services in Kent. Many of these derelict engines have been repatriated from South America and other overseas places. The identity of a number of the engines is unknown.

Some of these engines may belong to 3rd parties and are being offered for sale on there behalf by Preston Services (Note others may only be in storage or under repair at the premises). The engines have been photographed on the public open days held between Christmas and New Year and at the Preston Steam Rally and East Kent Show.

*Note:Several of the engines listed in the TER under the T numbers have since being sold to new owners. This list was compiled from information on Preston Services web site, Steam Scenes, various magazines or in the TER list from were the T number/serial no. data was sourced, not every engine in the yard has its Serial/T number visible for photographing as they were tightly packed. A number were offered for sale by auction at the 2011/2012 New Year open days so now also have lot numbers painted on them (see photo above of line up outside).

Preston Steam Museum

The Steam Museum at Preston Services in Kent

House in the adjacent Oust House is a small collection of stationary steam engines.

Preston Steam Rally

The Preston steam rally is held on the adjacent land in ? each year. The rally is independently organised. The yard and museum are open free to all visitors to the rally.
