Petrol cans are containers designed for transporting small quantities of petrol. In the early years of motoring the petrol was sold in cans before bulk tanks were introduced with petrol pumps to dispense fuel. Many early cans were quite decorative with embossed company logos and brass caps. These cans are collectable.
Modern cans are moulded plastic and are specially designed for the purpose, in most countries it is a legal requirement that only specially designed containers are used to transport and carry petrol due to the flammable nature of the product.
