The Massey Combines Corporation was formed when the Varity Corporation, owners of Massey Ferguson, was trying to cut losses and spun off Massey's combine harvester manufacturing business, 4000 series tractors, balers and a foundry business, into a separate company in 1981, calling it Massey Combines Corporation. They included much of Massey's debt into the new company, with Varity retaining 45% of the company. Headquartered in Brantford, Ontario, Canada and Des Moines, Iowa, USA, the company's products were still sold by Massey Ferguson dealers, but the combine harvester products carried the MASSEY name and MF logo, rather than Massey Ferguson.[1] Several lawsuits were filed claiming deception and fraud by Varity. The Des Moines portion of the business failed in 1982.[2]

The 400-series 4WD tractors were later acquired by McConnell Tractors.

The company purchased the combine harvester business of White Farm Equipment, and some of the combines carried both the White and Massey logos. The company became insolvent in 1988. Vicon and Cereal Implements purchased the rights to the designs, but decided to not manufacture the combines. Western Combine was formed in 1990 and acquired pieces of the Massey Combine Corporation, and eventually was itself bought by AGCO.
