Marshall Colonial of 1908 - R

A very rare surviving example of a Marshall Colonial tractor in the UK

The Marshall Colonial tractor range was a range of 5 tractors designed by Marshall, Sons & Co. for the export market to compete with the large US gas tractors that were replacing Steam engines by the beginning of the 20th Century. The tractors were based on steam engine style wheels with a heavy chassis to which a large gas or oil-engine was mounted, with a cooling tower radiator in front.

Few examples of these machines survive. A number are still in Australia, with one example broght back to the UK by the late Major Henry Marshall and now in the collection of Robert Crawford. (photo above)
