Mahindra Tractors, the farm equipment division of Mahindra & Mahindra based in Mumbai, India, builds and sources tractors that are sold worldwide across six continents.[1] Mahindra builds more tractors in India than any other manufacturer,[2] and has the capacity to build 150,000 tractors a year.[3]
Other companies that Mahindra has sourced tractors from include: Fieldmarshal of India, Mahindra China, Tong Yang Moolsan of South Korea and Mitsubishi Agricultural Machinery of Japan.
History[]
In 1963, International Tractor Company was established in India as a joint venture with International Harvester of the United States to manufacture IH-based tractors in India. The collaboration with International Harvester continued until 1971. In 1977, International Tractor Company merged with Mahindra & Mahindra to become its tractor division, and Mahindra-branded tractors were introduced in 1982.[4]
In addition to building their own tractors, Mahindra also sources tractors from other manufacturers. For the USA market, Mahindra has bought tractors from Mitsubishi and Tong Yang Moolsan to cover selected product ranges.[5]
