In 1950 International replaced the Emeryville, California built W-series with the new LD-400 series. The LD-400 series used the Comfo-Vision cab with a massive front end that resembled that of the W-series but had the edges rounded-off. Engines included a wide range of Cummins and Buda diesels from 165-300 hp and Hall-Scott gasoline and Butane engines from 266-356 hp. As before, main transmissions offered were 4, 5, and 10-speed types with available 3-speed auxiliaries. Single rear axles included hypoid single-reduction, double-reduction, and 2-speed models. Air brakes were standard on all models. A companion LD-300 series was the same except for a set-back front axle. In 1952 International added the new extreme-service LFD-410 series to its line. The LFD-410 series included the specific LFD-410 model, an on/off-highway truck rated at 55,000 lb GVW, and the LFD-411, an off-highway model rated at 60,000 lb. A comparable LFD-310 series had a set-back front axle.
