August Charles Fruehauf was a U.S. born entrepreneur / inventor who trained as a blacksmith. And is noted as having invented the tractor trailer or semi-trailer (Sattelschlepper in German) in 1914 and then founded the Fruehauf Trailer Corporation in the USA.
The Fruehauf company latter formed a JV / license agreement with Cranes Trailers in the UK in the 1960's to create Crane Fruehauf.
His parents immigrated from Germany- Bremen. Children born in Michigan. August Charles's father was born in Prussia, Germany.
