The Force One was an SUV manufactured by Force Motors, the maker of Traveller minibuses and the Trax utility vehicles in India. The company entered the SUV segment for the first time.
Force One was launched in 2011 and received much appreciations from owners. At almost 4.8 m (16 ft) long and 1.8 m (6 ft) wide, the Force One was enormous. Made under the license from the Chinese Foday Explorer III. Suspension, which was fine tuned by Lotus Engineering.
Models[]
There were three models available in the market - LX, SX and EX. LX was the high end version which offered 4x4 off-roading capability. Both LX and SX versions came with 2.2 litre FMTech 141 PS power engine. EX was lower end model which offered 2.6 litre FTI BSIII engine which developed 82 PS of power. Both LX and SX came with first in the segment feature DRLs (Daytime Running LEDs). This suv is also sold in China as the Foday Explorer, in Ghana as the Kantanka Nkunimdie and in North Korea as the Pyeonghwa Pronto. Force One was available in four variants: EX 7-seater, SX 6-seater, SX 7-seater and LX 4x4 7-seater.
Engine[]
It was a 2.2 FMTECH CRDi, 4 Cylinder In-Line 16v DOHC, 2149 cc power plant which was produced under license from Daimler AG. This 2.2 FMTECH CRDi engine was generating a peak power of 141 Ps @ 3800 RPM and a peak torque: 321Nm @ 1600-2400rpm. It came with a 5 speed manual transmission. Its G32/5 Synchromesh Overdrive Gearbox used an advanced Dual mass flywheel (DMFW) technology.
Safety[]
The power assisted steering with tilt and collapsible mechanism and protection guard ensured driver safety. There were no airbags. The front brakes were discs with twin pot four-piston caliper while rear drums were assisted with auto adjuster. One of the unique feature was the over speed warning that warned if the SUV crosses the permissible speed limit. Remote key entry, driver seat warning, door open warning and display, ultrasonic reverse parking sensors for parking in tight spaces, brake pad wear warning along with central looking were other safety features. The SX variant came with option of ABS and the LX variant came with ABS and 4-wheel drive system as standard.
Discontinuation[]
In spite of such impressive size and numbers, the SUV failed to meet the Force Motors expectations. It managed to sell only around 3000 units from November 2011 to January 2016 while initially Force Motors expected to sell 4000 units in the first year of its launch itself. Finally Force Motors decided to shut the project of Force One in the year 2016 as it was not the profitable business anymore. Company decided to focus on its core business which is manufacturing of commercial vehicles.
