The McCormick-Deering TD-40 was a diesel engined crawler tractor built by the International Harvester company from 1934 to 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

The McCormick-Deering TD-40 crawler was the same as the TA-40 except for the unique 4-cylinder diesel engine, which started on gasoline and then quickly switched to diesel. The TD-40 was rated at 48 belt and 43 drawbar hp. In 1934 the TD-40 had no direct competition; in size and power it fit between the Caterpillar Thirty-Five and Caterpillar Fifty. The Allis-Chalmers K-O semi-diesel was the same size as the TD-40 but more powerful. In mid-1934 the 3-cylinder Caterpillar Forty succeeded the Thirty-Five and had a power output almost exactly the same as the TD-40. It was renamed the Caterpillar RD-6 the following year. The 1936 Bates 40 developed about the same power from a Waukesha 6-cylinder semi-diesel engine. In 1937 the TD-40’s engine speed was increased to 1,200 rpm, boosting the power of the tractor up to the level of the Allis-Chalmers K-O and ahead of the other makes.

- As of May 25th 2011 I was searching through the NET info about TD-40 and run into this message:
- http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30262. So it seems that the guy "20 Reeves Highwheeler " owned one such a machine in 2006 at least, and might own it now.
