Bellis and Morcom Engine and Aveling-Barford boiler working at Astwood Bank Vintage Gathering 2009

CAITLIN is a small Belliss & Morcom single cylinder vertical steam engine No. 8890 built in Birmingham. Owned by Matt Pomeroy from Evesham, Worcestershire.

History[]

This engine was built in 19? and was used in the Laundry at the Brine Baths, Droitwich Spa for many years run from a Static Steam boiler. The engine being used to drive machinery in the laundry from line shafting. The engine was recovered from the derelict Spa for preservation and is currently mounted on a small trailer with steam provided by a small Aveling-Barford built vertical boiler. The boiler being suitable for running the engine for short periods only due to its limited steam capacity, but well suited to its roll of demonstrations as it is transportable.
