Diesel United is an engine manufacturing division of IHI formed in 1988 from the merger of the diesel engine operations of IHI and Sumitomo Heavy Industries. Both companies had been licensees of Sulzer, and continues to be of Sulzer's successor, Wärtsilä. Sumitomo is no longer part owner of this company. Engines are manufactured under the DU and DU-Wärtsilä brands, (formerly DU-Sulzer). In 2007, a tie-up was announced with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.[1][2]

The heavy engines manufactured power ships.
