The DS 7 Crossback is a compact luxury crossover SUV from the French automaker DS Automobiles. The vehicle was presented for the first time on 28 February 2017, and its public premiere at the 87th Geneva Motor Show in March 2017.[2]

The SUV, like the Citroën C5 Aircross, is based on the EMP2 platform of Groupe PSA. Though not the first SUV for and from the brand (see DS 6), it is the first for Europe.

The SUV was officially unveiled to the press 28 February 2017, before being shown to the public at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, and marketed in January 2018 for diesel versions.[3][4]

New positioning[]

Since the DS 5 in 2011, DS Automobiles had no longer launched new models in Europe, and its sales declined.[5]

In addition to improving sales, the DS 7 Crossback marked a new focus for DS, focusing more on comfort, on the quality of the assembly and the materials, and on the technologies (driving aids, driving semi autonomous), in order to get closer to the top trio of premium car manufacturers, consisting of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.

It is also one of the first models that the PSA Group intended to launch in North America.[6] However, in February of 2021, Stellantis (the successor of both PSA and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) cancelled plans of selling the DS7 Crossback in North America, as Stellantis said that it would not introduce any former PSA brands to the North American market, instead focusing on the brands FCA had sold in that market, namely Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati.

DS 7 Crossback Presidential[]

Template:Related article On his inauguration on 14 May 2017, the elected president Emmanuel Macron chose the DS 7 Crossback as his presidential car.[7] This was the first time a president used an SUV model as part of an inauguration ceremony.[8] The model was only used once for this occasion, and was later exhibited in the showroom DS World Paris.

This specific version (lent seven months before the model is sold in France, scheduled for January 2018) is in an ink blue colour, has a custom made, uncovered roof, and multiplies the identity details: French flags and logos "RF" (for "République Française" (or "[the] French Republic" in French)) appear in various places, the interior proposes a black leather derived from the Opéra finish, and a "lacquer canvas" (a fabric coated with a luxurious lacquer[9]) has been specially designed and manufactured by the Maury workshop.[10]

On 10 September 2017, the DS 7 Crossback Presidential participated in the contest of elegance of the Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille accompanied by a mannequin dressed by Eymeric François.[11] On the occasion of the European Heritage Days on 16 and 17 September 2017, the DS 7 Crossback Présidentiel was exhibited in the courtyard of the Palais de l'Elysée.
