A barn find is a classic car, motorcycle, tractor or other vehicle that is discovered abandoned, usually in derelict condition. The term comes from the tendency to be found in places such as old barns on farms. Many of the people who discover barn finds tend to be collectors and often offer to purchase the vehicle so as to save it from the scrap man, fix it, and in many cases restore it. Some notable 'barn finds' have been auctioned for thousands of dollars before any work has been done and have been seen at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance unrestored.[citation (source) needed]
Farmers often parked vehicles in old barns when they broke down intending to fix it later or when they got a newer one they parked the old vehicle up as a spare. Other vehicles have been found in old barns on estates were somebody looking for cheap storage has rented space to store a vehicle older in to work on it and then never got round to finishing fixing it often after partial dismantling. Often they are part buried under other 'junk'.
