The Audi Motor Assembly K.K. is a former assembly facility for automobiles. The company was founded in 1987 and was a joint venture between Audi AG and Hino Jidōsha K.K. The plant was located in Tokyo, Japan and employed more than 900 workers. The plant had the capacity to assemble up to 70,000 vehicles in a year. The vehicles which were assembled in this plant can be identified within the vehicle identification number by a 9 in the eleventh digit of the VIN code.
The distribution of the vehicles was a part of the dealer network from the Yanase K.K. Due to increasingly competitive behaviour by the Japanese company Toyota Motor Corporation, the German company stopped its cooperation in January 1998. With the termination of the local assembly, the prices for the now imported models were increasing up to 25 per cent.
After only three years later, in 2000, Audi AG founded its own local Japanese dealer network, as Audi Japan K.K.
